Edward Fenner

 

[b ca. 1570 in Sussex; d 21 July 1603 at Albourne, Sussex] Edward Fenner, son of the esteemed sea captain Thomas Fenner and his first wife, Mary Bellingham, m Mary Shelley [1580–1646] on 20 June 1598 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex; had Elizabeth [ca. 1600–] and Martha [ca. 1600–1636]. Mary was the daughter of Richard Shelley and Dorothy Hills, whose lineage is recorded in Pedigrees of the Families in the County of Sussex (1830). Edward’s will was recorded in the registers of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, written 13 July 1603, probated 9 Oct. 1605, naming no heirs besides his wife. On 12 May 1613, Mary at age 33 m 2nd John Sadler, a clerk age 32, at Stepney, in Middlesex.

Will of Edward Fenner 1605

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Edward Fenner of Auburn in the countie of Sussex be[]g God be thanked of good and perfect remembraunce thoughe weake in bodie do make and declare this my last will and testament. First my soule I comende into the handes of Almightie God my maker and my bodie to be buried in the p[ar]ishe church of Awburne or wheresoever els it shall seeme good to my executrix.

Item. I will and bequeathe all my leases debtes chattells goodes moveable and unmoveable whatsoever to my deere and lovinge wife Marie Fennor whome I make sole Executrix of this my last will. And as touchinge my children and thire portions I leave the whole disposition thereof to the good discretion of my saide wife upon that full and good assueraunce w[hi]ch I have of her motherlie and loving care toweredes them. And whereas I am desierous to have the estate which I now houlde in my leases renewed and made of better and longer continewaunce yf it maie be obtained my full will and desier here in allso is that the full and whole terme estate interest profitt and comoditie thereof be and remaine wholie and solie to my saide Executrix. And in witnes that this is my true meaninge I have hereunto sett my hands and sele the thirtenthe daie of Julie And in the yeare of our Lorde one thousand six hundred and three. Edward Fenner.
