In 1881, Benjamin m 1st Alice Alta Lutes [b 14 Oct. 1864 in PA; d 1 Apr. 1903 at Scranton, PA], daughter of George Wellington Lutes and Mary Ann Winans. In 1900, he and Alice were living at 105 Marion St. in Scranton with seven children. He was a teamster, working in coal mines. After Alice’s death, he m 2nd Margaret (Morgan) Snyder [1859 in Wales; d 19 Feb. 1934 at Scranton, PA] on 30 Sept. 1905, daughter of Thomas Morgan and Catherine Williams, who had previously been married to Benjamin Snyder. In 1910, he and Margaret were living in Scranton. They evidently separated or divorced, because in 1920, he was living with his daughter Mable and her husband in Manhattan. In 1940, Benjamin was living at 419 Powell Ave. in Clarks Summit with Mable’s family. He died of heart disease and had been suffering from dementia. He was buried at Beaumont Cemetery, Wyoming Co., PA.

Benjamin’s true parentage is unclear. The only clue is in his death certificate, which lists his father as William Fenner, mother unknown. He is probably the son of William H. Fenner [1838–1898], except William was still living with his parents and siblings in 1860, and Benjamin is not to be found in the 1860 or 1870 census. In all likelihood, Benjamin was born out of wedlock and was raised by another family.
