Family of Captain Arthur Fenner

Sarah Fenner

Sarah Fenner [b 26 Nov. 1615; d 25 May 1676 at Saybrook, CT], daughter of Arthur Fenner and Sarah Browne, sister of Capt. Arthur Fenner, m 1st John Tully on 17 Oct. 1637 at Horley, county Surrey, and had two children: John and Sarah. They inherited much property in the parish of Horley, hundred of Reigate, county of Surrey, twenty miles from London. John Tully died in England, leaving a will dated 11 June 1644, and the widow and children came to New England with her two brothers Thomas and John Fenner, ca. 1646–7. John Tully left his estate to his executors, one being his brother William. He also had a sister, Martha. The Fenner who went to England at the proper time to claim John’s estate failed to take deeds, and the executors asserted him to be an imposter. Details are given of his return, discovery of deeds sewed inside an old gown, and successful recovery of houses, orchards, etc., in the parish of Horley.

Sarah m 2nd Robert Lay [b 1617; d 9 July 1689] on 12 Dec. 1647 at Saybrook, CT. Robert was the brother of John and Edward Lay.
